Dear Parent/Student:
John Dewey stated that "education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." With this theme in mind, I encourage you and your child to embark on an educational journey that will provide numerous academic opportunities and challenges.
It continues to be an exciting time to be a student at Matawan Regional High School! During the past few months the high school administration, faculty and staff have been continuing our cooperative efforts to enhance our curriculum offerings, implement innovative programs, and fortify a strong school community. We are continuing to build and expand the course offerings and internship opportunities for our Biomedical, Business and Performing Arts Academies. This year we will be beginning our Freshman Academy which is developed around the concept of a small learning community and is a school-within-a-school organized around interdisciplinary teams of English, math, science and social studies.
Advancements in our science, mathematics, and social studies curriculums promote the academic rigor necessary to improve student achievement. Additionally, our faculty is devoted to focusing efforts to enhance student writing skills and to strengthen critical and creative thinking skills. Technology continues to be a focus of our student learning objectives as we infuse these skills throughout our curriculum.
Please mark Monday, September 19th on your calendar as we will have our annual Back to School Night from 7-9 pm. The staff and I look forward to meeting you and sharing our goals and expectations.
Enclosed in this mailing is your studentfs schedule, bus pass, and important information from our superintendent. It is our belief that a collaborative effort by parents, students and our high school staff is needed to achieve academic excellence. It is imperative that all stakeholders in our school community understand and adhere to our school expectations. Additional information will be sent home with your child on the first day of school. Thank you in advance for taking the time to review the enclosed material with your child.

I look forward to meeting our students on September 6th. Students will be able to enter the building at 7:10am and they must be in homeroom no later than 7:25am. If you are transporting your child to school, please utilize the loop in the junior parking lot. The driveway in the front of the school is restricted to our school buses.
