Mr. Pruitt

Hello! My name is Ron Pruitt and I am currently in my fourth year of teaching music here in the Matawan-Aberdeen School District at both Strathmore and Cliffwood! I am very excited to begin our journey through the world of music together! In class, we will learn a wide variety of songs, play instruments, learn dances, and study different styles of music such as Rock n' Roll, Jazz, and Classical. I hope you are as ready as I am to have a great time exploring music!

My musical experiences began as a trombone player in school band back in 2001, and I have since learned to play many brass and woodwind instruments, as well as guitar, piano, and voice. My favorite instrument to play, however, is the saxophone, which I am fortunate to play in various bands every week!

When I'm not working with all of you at school, I am usually performing Jazz, Rock, or Classical music.  I am in my fifth year as the director of the Sharpshooters Band of Northern New Jersey, a professional Marching Band that I joined in 2007. I lead a Frank Sinatra Jazz band which has done concerts at Harrah's Philadelphia Casino, The Triad Theater in NYC, and in the Washington DC and Baltimore areas. I perform with the Italian Folk group, the Metropolitan Festival Band. And I also play in a band called From Russia with Swing, every Tuesday in New York!

My other hobbies include traveling, hiking, studying U.S. History, and spending time with my family and friends. I am proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Woodbridge, NJ, where I serve as the Esteemed Lecturing Knight and the Chairman of the Drug Awareness Program. I enjoy trying new things and sharing my experiences and discoveries with other people. I truly hope to instill that passion for learning and exploration in all of my students through music!
