• Matawan 6...Long Branch 1

    The Huskies opened up the 2017 season with a 6-1 vicory over the Green Wave of Long Branch. Sophia Garofalo and Tarie Marsh each found the back of the net twice while Colleen Lillis and Mya King added goals with assists going to Eva Marsh, Miranda Matlick, Garofalo, and Fatima Konate. Sam Ritter held Long Branch scoreless for 45 minutes to spark the Huskies to their opening day victory!

     

    Matawan 3...Holmdel 2 (OT)

    Mya King scored her second goal four minutes into overtime to give Matawan the golden goal victory over Holmdel 3-2. Sophia Garogalo scored her third goal of the season from Sierra Hill's first assist of the season. Eva Marsh and Colleen Lillis notched assists on Mya King's goals. Megan Stuart made several outstanding assists to preserve the victory.

     

    Matawan 6...Thorne 1

    Mya King notched a hat trick and Sophia Garofalo netted two goals as the Huskies beat Thorne to avenge two losses last season and improve to 3 and 0 on the season. Lyndsey McCabe got Matawan going with her first goal 5 minutes into the match and she also assisted on Garofalo's goal later in the game. Eva Marsh and Fatima Konate also assisted on goals and Megan Stuart shut out Thorne for 59 minutes and 57 seconds. Matawan's defensive line of Joie Higgins, Kailee Bodin, Sierra Hill, Emily Mallett, Ava Gallo, and Caitlyn Deahl limited Thorne to harmless shots outside of the 18 and played well defensively throughout the game.

     

    Matawan 2...Ocean 1

    The Huskies controlled play for most of the 60 minutes in their match vs. Ocean, but were unable to find the back of the net as the teams were tied 0-0 at halftime. Collen Lillis got Matawan on the scoreboard with her 2nd goal of the season. Ocean quickly tied the game at two a short time later. Tarie Marsh sent home a rebound off a Mya King shot to propel the Huskies with a lead they would not relinquish. Matawan's back line of Melina Roman, Sierra Hill, Kailee Bodin, and Joie Higgins were outstanding as the Huskies improved to 4 and 0 on the season.

     

    Matawan 7...Nepune 1

    The girls soccer team ended an undefeated 5 game road trip with a 7-1 victory over Neptune. Sophia Garofalo and Fatima Konate each scored two goals. Mya King, Eva Marsh, and Miranda Matlick scored one while Delaney Scheuing, Tarie Marsh, King, Garofalo, and Konate assisted on others. Nina Sassa, Peyton Auriemma, and Kailee Bodin found the net in extra time. Megan Stuart and Sam Ritter combined to hold Neptune to one goal. The Huskies host their home opener Friday vs. Bayshore.

     

    Matawan 4...Bayshore 0

    The Huskies beat Bayshore for the first time since 2012 to improve to 6-0 at their home opener on Friday. This was an intense, physical battle from the opening whistle until the game's end 60 minutes later. Sophia Garofalo opened the scoring with her 8th goal after winning a lose ball from the goalie and burying it into the back of the net. Eva Marsh scored after Kailee Bodin made a long run and assist for Matawan's second goal. Mya King netted her 8th goal just before half and added insurance with her 9th goal in the 50th minute off a nice combo play between Delaney Scheuing and Colleen Lillis. Megan Stuart secured the shutout in goal. Ava Gallo, Peyton Auriemma, Caitlin Deahl, and Bella Mastrolia made nice contributions off the bench as Matawan had four players unable to play due to lower body injuries. 

     

    Matawan 3...Colts Neck 0

    Megan Stuart ran her shutout streak to two games as Matawan improved to 7 and 0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Colts Neck Thursday. Miranda Matlick got the Huskies on the board with her second goal of the season after finishing a cross from Sophia Garofalo. They soon made the score 2-0 with Garofalo netting her 9th goal of the season with an assist to Fatima Konate, who notched her team leading 5th assist. Kailee Bodin provided some breathing room after a 50 yard run and finish to put the game out of reach. Matawan's back line of Ava Gallo, Joie Higgins, Melina Roman, Kailee Bodin and Hailey Haberman limited the Colts' chances to shots outside of the 18 and continue to play outstanding team defense. Nina Sassa played strong in extra time with a goal and several chances.

     

    Matawan 4...Thompson 3

    The Huskies escaped with a 4-3 victory over Thompson in a game where they found themselves outplayed for large portions of the game. Eva Marsh banged home a lose ball forced by pressure from Sophia Garofalo to give Matawan an early 1-0 lead after Thompson was given several scoring opportunies in the first few minutes. At the 15 minute mark, Delaney Scheuing found the top shelf of the goal from just outside of the 18 off a feed by Colleen Lillis. The goal was the first career MAMS goal by Scheuing. Garofalo then scored her 10th and 11th goals to give the Huskies a 4-1 lead. Thompson responded with two goals of their own to make the score 4-3 but strong goaltending by Megan Stuart prevented the upset. 

     

    Matawan 5...Hazlet 2

    The Huskies continued their winning ways with the same winning formula that has propelled them to the top of the Shore Confernce of Middle Schools standings. Sophia Garofalo scored her 12th and 13th goals and assisted on another. Mya King also scored twice for numbers 10 and 11 and added two assists. Colleen Lillis notched her third goal and Sam Ritter added an assist as Matawan improved to 9-0-0 on the season. Courtney Coco, Nina Sassa, Ava Gallo, Emily Mallett, Peyton Auriemma, Fatima Konate, Tarie Marsh, Miranda Matlick, and Sam Ritter enjoyed strong games in the field. Megan Stuart was outstanding as usual. 

     

    Matawan 3...Ocean 2

    The Lady Huskies improved to 10 and 0 by winning an instant classic over Ocean 3-2. Matawan jumped out to a 2-0 lead off two first half goals from Mya King. After giving up the lead, Matawan continued to press and Sophia Garofalo eventually won a lose ball and played a cross to Colleen Lillis who found the back of the net with a minute left in the game. Fatima Konate and Eva Marsh notched assists. Matawan hosts a one-loss Holmdel team tomorrow at Strathmore.

     

    Matawan 4...Holmdel 3

    The Huskies clinched their first Shore Conference Title since 2007 coming from behind to defeat Holmdel 4-3. The Huskies found themselves facing an early 1 goal deficit which Mya King erased from a pass from Sophia Garofalo to tie the game. Early in the 2nd half, Holmdel found the back of the net and shortly after was awarded a PK on a questionable call in the box. Megan Stuart guessed correctly and denied Holmdel's goal. Matawan gained some life off Stuart's heroics and Sophia Garofalo evened the score again off a feed by King. The Huskies then added a third goal from Garofalo and a fourth from King's PK to take a 4-2 lead. Holmdel followed with a furious press however Matawan held on for the 4-3 victory and conference championship.

     

    Matawan 4...Thorne 1

    The Huskies completed their perfect season by sweeping the season series with Thorne and defeating them 4-1. Nothing was easy in this match, as Matawan had to rally from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game on Mya King's 16th goal. Sophia Garofalo then gave the Huskies the lead with her team leading 16th and 17th goals. Lyndsey McCabe added some insurance with her second goal of the season. Colleen Lillis and Joie Higgins added assists as the Huskies became the first team in school history to finish the season with no losses and no ties (12-0-0) and added their second Shore Conference of Middle Schools Championship (2007 and 2017). The Huskies will certainly miss the core of 8th graders that will go onto high school: Emily Mallett, Sam Ritter, Lyndsey McCabe, Delaney Scheuing, Bella Foley, Fatima Konate, Kailee Bodin, Colleen Lillis, Miranda Matlick, Bella Mastrolia, Hailey Haberman, Melina Roman and Megan Stuart.
