April in music class is all about Jazz!
Jazz is my favorite type of music, and one that I play on saxophone and piano almost every day! Just like Rock n' Roll, Jazz was first invented in America. Jazz was created in New Orleans, Louisiana, and became a popular style of music in the 1920's. The 1920s was also sometimes called the "Jazz Age." In class we will study the man called the King of Jazz, the great Louis Armstrong. We will also study and listen to the music of Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Parker.
Jazz has taken on many different forms throughout it's history. In class, you will also learn about four common styles of jazz: Swing, the Blues, Cool Jazz, and Bebop. Each one has its roots in the music of Louis Armstrong, but has a very different personality and reason for being played. I hope you are as ready as I am to begin studying the world of Jazz!!!
