Shore Regional spoiled Matawan's opening day by handing the Huskies a 7-6 defeat. Chris Dietrich led the offense with 3 hits. Dylan Livich, Ben Porricelli, and Mike Caldon chipped in with a hit each. Caldon and Tim Egan pitched well in relief.
Matawan 9...Red Bank Regional 4
Jimmy Nichols battled through 4 innings with 7 K's to get the Huskies their first win of the season, with Carlos Zeno pitching stellar for 3 innings of relief including 4 K's of his own. Griffin Falco, Christian Rivera, and Matt Silva powered the offense with 2 hits each.
Matawan 12...St. John Vianney 11
Matt Silva scored the tying run and Cole Burlew scored the winning run on the same wild pitch as the Huskies rallied from a 7-0 deficit to stun the Lancers with a walk-off victory. Tim Egan labored through 4 innings to hand off the ball to Carlos Zeno, who was great again in relief to earn his first victory of the season. Egan and Ryan Anderson each had two hits. Dylan Livich and Vinny Guarino contributed big RBI doubles in the come-back victory.
Matawan 14...Holmdel 12
The Huskies jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after 1 inning, but this game would take 9 innings to determine the winner. Carlos Zeno calmed the Hornets' bats after Ryan Anderson struggled with his command to earn his second win out of the bullpen. Anderson, Dylan Livich, and Matt Silva led the offense with two hits each. Chris Dietrich stole 3 bases and scored the go-ahead run in the 9th for the lead. Dietrich then retired Holmdel in the 9th to notch his first save of the season.
Matawan 12...Rumson Fair Haven 3
Jimmy Nichols settled down after a 30 pitch first inning to cruise through 6 innings as he scattered 5 hits and struck out 9 after walking only 2 batters in the first inning to improve to 2-0 on the season. Nichols also had a solid day offensively as he had 2 RBI, stole a base, and scored a run. Dylan Livich and Chris Dietrich each had RBI doubles and Nick Martinez stole 3 bases and scored 2 runs as the Huskies improved to 4-1 on the season.
Matawan 9...Long Branch 3
Nick Trapani stuck out 9 over 5 innings and led the offense with a lead-off double, scored a run, and had 2 stolen bases as the Huskies defeated the Green Wave 9-3. Mike Caldon and Christian Rivera struck out 5 of the 6 batters they faced to nail down the win. Ryan Anderson had 3 hits and 2 RBI and Vinny Guarino had another hit with 2 RBI as Dylan Livich, Jimmy Nichols and Mike Caldon collected the other hits.
Raritan 9...Matawan 5
The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but they fell behind in the 2nd and were never able to recover as the Rockets defeated Matawan 9-5. Matt Silva, Ryan Anderson, and Dylan Livich each had two hits. Vinny Guarino doubled home a run, Christian Rivera tripled home a run, and Timmy Egan singled and scored to contribute to the offense. Mathew Palomo made several nice catches in right field and Carlos Zeno was again effective out of the bullpen for the Huskies.
Matawan 6...Red Bank 1
Chris Dietrich (2-2, 2SB, 2R, BB, HBP) struck out 7 over 5 innings and allowed only a 3rd inning double to notch his first win of the season. Christian Rivera pitched 2 innings of no-hit ball, striking out 3 to nail down the win. Dylan Livich continues to swing a hot bat as he scorched 3 singles. Timmy Egan doubled home a pair before leaving the game to strike out the side in the 7th inning of the Varsity victory.
Matawan 12...Shore 2 (5 innings)
Ryan Anderson scattered 3 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings while striking out 5 and allowing 1 earned run to improve to 1 and 1 and propel the Huskies to their 7th victory of the season. Carlos Zeno hit a long triple over the left fielder's head and scored 3 runs with 3 walks on the day. Nick Martinez scored two runs himself - one coming on a straigth steal of home in the 3rd inning. Tim Egan doubled home two runs, Matt Silva and Christian Rivera had hits and multiple runs scored in the win.
Holmdel 9...Matawan 8
Jimmy Nichols left with a 7-2 lead in the 5th, but the Huskies' bullpen was unable to secure the final 6 outs as Holmdel rallied to win 9-8. Matt Silva had a huge day at the plate and on the basepaths as he went 3 for 5 with a triple, double, single, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Christian Rivera was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, Ryan Anderson collected 2 hits, and Luke Elliott was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Carlos Zeno sacrificed successfully twice to add to a hit and Timmy Egan walked 3 times and notched a single.
Matawan 11...Central 9
The Huskies were down to their final 6 outs after having 12 of their last 14 batters retired in order on the losing end of a 9-2 game. Nick Trapani and Ryan Anderson started the bottom of the 6th with consecutive singles. Dylan Livich lifted a SAC fly to cut the lead to 9-3. Jimmy Nichols and Carlos Zeno followed with consecutive singles to make it a 4 run game. Vinny Guarino unloaded a 2 RBI triple over the CF head to bring Matawan within two. Nick Martinez squeezed home Cole Burlew to cut the deficit to one. Matt Silva then walked to bring up Christian Rivera who unloaded a 2 RBI double to score another give matawan a 10-9 lead. Dylan Livich then delivered his second SAC fly of the inning to cap a 9 run inning. Ryan Anderson picked up the win after pitching a scoreless 7th inning.
Matawan 14...SJV 4
The Huskies scored multiple runs in every inning except the 1st as they destroyed the Lancers, while improving to 9 and 3 on the season. Ryan Anderson cleared the center field fence for his first home run of his high school career and Vinny Guarino drilled the top of the fence to put an exclamation point on the lopsided affair. Nick Martinez (2-5, R, SB, BB), Ryan Anderson (1-3, HR, R, 3 RBI, 2BB), Vinny Guarino (2-3, 2B, 2BB, R), Matt Silva (SB, 3R), Carlos Zeno (2-4, BB, 3R, 2 RBI), Jimmy Nichols (3-4, 3R, SB, BB, RBI), Mike Caldon (3-4, 2R, BB, 4 RBI), and Cole Burlew (1-4, SAC) propelled the offense. Carlos Zeno pitched effectively in his complete game win as he struck out 6 and allowed just 2 earned runs.
Rumson Fair Haven 20...Matawan 15
The Huskies found themselves on the wrong end of a slugfest as they lost leads of 8-2 and 10-5 as the Bulldogs rallied to plate 20 runs vs. Matawan. Several Huskies enjoyed nice days at the plate: Nick Martinez (2-4, 3B, 2R, RBI, SAC), Mike Caldon (2-3, 2B, R, 3 RBI, SAC, BB), Ryan Anderson (2-4, 3B, 3 RBI), and Luke Elliott (1-2, 2B, 2 BB, 3 R). The Huskies look to rebound in their JV Tourney vs. Monmouth today.
Monmouth Regional 17...Matawan 8
The Huskies spotted the Falcons 13 runs through 2 innings and although they fought valiantly until the end, Matawan was unable to catch Monmouth as they bowed out of the SJV JV Tourney 17-8. Nick Trapani and Matt Silva battled for 7 innings on the mound as the Husky pitching staff had nothing left in the tank. Silva continues to sting the ball as he went 3 for 3 with a single, double, and a triple to go along with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Dylan Livich had two hits and an RBI while Ben Porricelli, Nick Trapani, Ryan Anderson, and Vinny Guarino chipped in with a hit for the Dogs.
Matawan 16...Carteret 2
Matt Silva led the offense with a single, double, triple, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI as the Huskies trounced Cartaret 16-2 in 5 innings. Aidan Holeman had two hits including a double and triple, and Tim Egan chipped in with two singles and an RBI. Nick Trapani, Dylan Livich, Luke Elliott, Mike Caldon, and Dom Salot added singles as Ryan Anderson picked up his 3rd win on the mound.
Matawan 9...Raritan 8 (8 innings)
The Huskies earned a split of the season series with the Rockets after Christian Rivera walked off Nick Trapani in 8 innings with a 9-8 victory in 8 innings. Trapani had quite a day as he left with a 6-3 lead after 5 innings and went 3 for 5 with a double, 3 runs and 2 stolen bases. Rivera was just as good at the plate with 3 hits including 2 doubles, 2 runs, and 2 RBI. Ben Porricelli and Tim Egan each had two hits and an RBI, while Ryan Anderson and Vinny Guarino chipped in with a hit apiece. Mathew Palomo contributed with a sacrifice bunt and a couple of putouts in RF. Nick Martinez displayed some nifty baserunning as he got on after getting hit by a pitch, then scored on an errant throw after stealing 3rd base. Carlos Zeno recorded his 4th win of the season in relief.
Matawan 8...Point Pleasant Boro 7
The first time around the lineup, the Huskies couldn't muster a hit or a baserunner. All of that changed the second time around as Matawan erupted with 3 runs in the 4th, 4 more in the 5th, and another run in the 6th to pull out an 8-7 victory and improve to 12-5 on the season. Dylan Livich delivered timely hits in the 4th and 5th with a single, double and 3 RBI. Nick Trapani wrecked havoc all day by going 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Chris Dietrich returned from the DL with a hit and 2 runs scored and played solid defense at shortstop. Christian Rivera (2BB, R, SB) won his first game of the season as he pitched in and out of trouble for 4 innings with Ryan Anderson (2 hits, R, RBI) held off a rally in the 6th inning and wound up striking out the last batter of the game.
Brick 7...Matawan 6
Carlos Zeno pitched 7 effective innings, but a 7th inning rally ended with the tying run on 2B as the Huskies' season ended with a 7-6 loss to the Green Dragons of Brick. Matt Silva finished the season hitting .595 with a 2 for 2 day including a double, 2 BB, 3 runs and a stolen base. Nick Trapani also finished strong with 2 hits and 3 RBI and Vinny Guarino chipped in with 2 hits as well. Christian Rivera, Chris Dietrich, Dylan Livich, and Jimmy Nichols each collected a hit for Matawan.
