    Mrs. Cherence is a familiar face to the Matawan Aberdeen community.  She taught first grade and was a Literacy Interventionist at Cliffwood Elementary School.  Prior to joining Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District, Mrs. Cherence was a Reading Specialist, Literacy coach and teacher for the Edison School District.  Mrs. Cherence was an award recipient for New Jersey Governor's Teacher of the Year in 2009.  Mrs. Cherence received her undergraduate degree from the College of New Jersey as a double major in Elementary Education and Psychology.  She received her Masters as a Reading Specialist from Georgian Court University and earned her Principal & Supervisor Certificate from NJEXCEL.

    Mrs. Cherence believes in the importance of creating opportunities to involve families in their child's school and educational experience.  As the reading specialist at the Edison School District, Mrs. Cherence led the Title 1 Family Nights.  One of the engaging activities that she created and facilitated was the One School, One Book Program.

    During her tenure at Cliffwood Elementary School as the Title 1 Coordinator, Mrs. Cherence introduced the valuable One School, One Book program to the Cliffwood School community.  The program has been a staple at Cliffwood School ever since.  The families look forward to the enriching shared reading activities and experience with their children and school.   As the Assistant Principal at Matawan Aberdeen Middle School, Mrs. Cherence designed and facilitated MAMS First Annual Title 1 Family STEM Night.  The evening included hands-on science, math and engineering activities for students and families to participate and compete together!Outside of school, Mrs. Cherence enjoys reading, running, and cheering on her children at various sporting events.  Mrs. Cherence, her husband Dave, and two children, David & Madelyn love to spend time going to the beach, swimming, bringing their dogs to local parks and enjoying Football Sundays! Mrs. Cherence looks forward to continuing to work with Mr. Wells the Principal, Mr. Abrahamsen the Assistance Principal, Central Office Administration and building relationships with the students and families of Matawan Aberdeen Middle School.  Mrs. Cherence strives to foster a culture of positive outcomes for all students as the Assistant Principal for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year!
