    10/25/13 The Huskies (6-6) brought a five game winning streak and a ton of momentum into their season finale against Hazlet on Friday. Coming into the game the Huskies had spoiler on their minds as they looked to derail Hazlet's bid for a perfect season. Matawan and Hazlet traded scoring chances, missed opportunities, and physical play throughout a chippy match. In the end the difference was an eighteen yard shot that deflected off the crossbar and into the back of the net giving Hazlet a 1-0 win. The Huskies turned in another standout defensive effort from their backline and played inspired soccer, leaving it all on the field. After getting off to a slow (1-5) start Matawan finishes the season with a (6-6) record.

    10/23/13 The Huskies (6-5) remained red hot on Wednesday defeating Thorne 5-0; winning their 5th consecutive game and pulling their overall record above .500 for the first time all year. Matawan got after Thorne early and often never doubting a victory was theirs for the taking. Enir Radoncic made it 1-0 when he thumped home a Denir Radoncic centering feed. Denir made it 2-0 when he worked a clever give and go with Chris Pinto. Denir Radoncic made it a 3-0 halftime lead when he scored his team high sixteenth goal of the year receiving a perfectly weighted pass into space from Gavin Klamm. 7th grade winger Nico Clark slid a Michael Porcelli pass into the corner to make it 4-0. Enir Radoncic finished what he started by converting an Anthony Peters pass into bookend goals that wrapped up a Husky win. The Huskies backline continued its physical play helping Chris Mallozzi score his fourth shutout of the year. Matawan continues to get leadership from its 8th grade standouts and quality minutes from its bench. The Huskies go back to work in preparation for a physcial finale showdown with undefeated Hazlet.

    Huskies win 4th consecutive game, defeat Long Branch behind stalwart defense

    10/22/13 The Huskies improved their record to (5-5) with their 4th consecutive win, a 2-0 victory at Long Branch. Both teams struggled to create quality chances in the first half, physical defense getting the best of both offenses early. Midway through the second half the Huskies broke the 0-0 deadlock from a set piece. From about 35 yards out Ryan Cavanagh's flighted service into the box was redirected home by Denir Radoncic giving the Huskies a slight 1-0 advantage. Ten minutes later Radoncic made it 2-0 when he headed home his brother Enir's corner kick. A 2-0 advantage was more than enough for a Huskie defense who had put the clamps on any Green Wave attack all afternoon. The Matawan backline anchored by Vito Koempel, Matt Weisburg, Ryan Cavanagh and Griffin Hayward were dominant in flexing their physical muscle and beating Long Branch to every 50-50 ball. Chris Mallozzi secured his third shutout of the year, and made a sparkling kick save in the first half to keep it a 0-0 scoreline. Matawan also turned in a dominant performance in the developmental period, getting goals from Gavin Klamm assisted by Michael Porcelli and Anthony Peters from Marco Medel. The Huskies host Thorne this afternoon.

    10/18/13 The Huskies (4-5) won their third consecutive game on Friday afternoon downing Holmdel by a 3-0 margin. Denir Radoncic gave the Huskies a 1-0 halftime lead when he evaded several Holmdel defenders and pounded a shot into the back of the net. The Huskies nursed a 1-0 lead deep into the second half before getting a vital insurance goal from 6th grade standout Gavin Klamm. Minutes after checking into the game, Klamm made himself dangerous by making a slicing near post run inside the eighteen and skillfully redirecting an Enir Radoncic lofted service past the Holmdel keeper. Denir Radoncic took away all doubt of a Holmdel comeback when he converted a Chris Pinto pass for his second goal of the afternoon. The Matawan back line was again stout in helping Chris Mallozzi secure his second shutout of the year. Matawan goes back to work today in preparation for a rematch with Long Branch tomorrow.

    10/16/13 The Huskies improved to (3-5) on Wednesday when they outlasted Thorne and pulled away late in the second half to a convincing 4-1 victory. Enir Radoncic got Matawan off and running to a 1-0 lead when his corner kick beat the Thorne goalie over his head and found side netting. Thorne found the equalizer before the half on a set piece that was volleyed home. Early second half action saw both teams struggle for posession and quality chances, until 8th grade winger Bobby Johns sparked a three goal frenzy. Johns playing out wide received a ball from Marco Medel, beat his defender and ripped home a shot from the corner of the eighteen yard box. Johns doubled down minutes later when Denir Radoncic played him into space and Johns expertly slotted the ball past a helpless keeper. Anthony Ferrara capped off the offensive fury when from a wide position he received a pass from Chris Pinto and slid it past a diving keeper. Chris Mallozzi recorded his third win of the season. The Huskies look to keep rolling when they host Holmdel on Friday. Marcelo Colonna and Anthony Altomonte collected goals in the developmental period.

    10/15/13 The Huskies (2-5) found their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon by downing Colts Neck 3-0. Denir Radoncic got Matawan off and running when he drew a penalty kick half way through the first half. After Radoncic rang his PK off the upright, Mal Mehari was first to react playing the rebound back across the box for Radoncic to hammer home. Matt Weisburg got the helper on Radoncic's second goal of the game. Radoncic completed the hat trick to seal the deal late in the third when he and Ryan Cavanagh hooked up on a short corner kick. A quick give and go created space for Radoncic and his shot was spilled into the back of the net by the Colts Neck keeper. Griffin Hayward, Vito Koempel, and Anthony Pinto played lock down defense helping Chris Mallozzi to secure his second shutout of the season. Matawan looks to keep the momentum going as they travel to Thorne today.

    10/9/13 The Huskies(1-5) were back at it on Wednesday afternoon, looking for their second win against a fiesty Ocean team. Denir Radoncic leveled the score midway through the second half when his direct kicked was spilled into the net by the Ocean keeper. Radoncic gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead soon after when he received a pass from Matt Weisburg, beat a defender and sent a heavy left footed blast into the side netting. The Husky lead was short lived, conceding the equalizer in the dying moments of the second half and eventually the golden goal on a headed corner kick in the early stages of overtime. Matawan got a strong performance from their backline defense and many quality minutes from the bench. The Huskies go back to work today in preparation for a clash with Thorne on Friday.

    10/3/13 The Huskies (1-4) were brusied and battered by a veteran physical Hazlet team getting pounded by a scoreline of 7-1. The young Huskies will file this defeat under the "character building" title, lick their wounds and look to repay the favor to Hazlet when the Hurricanes travel to Matawan on 10/25. Denir Radoncic got the lone goal when he took a Griffin Hayward pass beat two Hazlet defenders and rifled the ball into the upper portion of the net. The Huskies look for their second win of the season on Monday when they travel to Colts Neck.

    10/1/13 The Huskies (1-3) left no doubt about it on Tuesday afternoon as they got on Bayshore early and often pounding them 9-0. The Huskies were sparked by two pairs of brothers who in total accounted for five goals and four assists on the afternoon. Denir Radoncic got Matawan off and running when he dribbled from central midfield around and through multiple Bayshore defenders and then hammered the ball past the keeper. Radoncic made it 2-0 when he received a pass from younger brother Enir, juked and jived around the Bayshore back four and again slotted it home. Radoncic notched the hat trick on a clever back heel after receiving a ball from Anthony Altomonte inside the 18-yard box as the keeper was closing down on him. The second half started with Enir Radoncic tallying his second goal of the year on an assist from his brother Denir. TJ Boutote cashed in his first to make it 5-0 when his forward companion Chris Pinto played him into space at the top of the eighteen. Chris Pinto found the back of the net with help from Enir Radoncic moments later. Newcomers Gavin Klamm, Marco Medel and Marcelo Colonna each found the score sheet for the first time, as they were assisted by Michael Porcelli twice and Anthony Peters, respectively. Vito Koempel and Griffin Hayward anchored a banged up and incomplete back four, while Anthony Pinto filled in at left back to help goalkeeping counterpart Chris Mallozzi record his first shutout of the year. The Huskies go back to work today in preparation for a rough and tumble trip to rival Hazlet on Thursday.

    9/26/13 The Huskies(0-3) played 50 minutes of stalwart defense continually bending without breaking until finally conceding two late goals to fall to Thompson by a scoreline of 2-1. During the first half Denir Radoncic was a strong presense in the midfield continually looking to create counter attack chances for the Matawan forwards, however nothing materialized until the second half. Matawan drew first blood when Denir Radoncic's free kick from just outside the 18-yard box was spilled out by the Thompson keeper and pounded home by an opportunistic Anthony Ferrara. Matawan maintained the advantage until conceding the equalizer and the eventual game winner minutes later. The young Huskies are gaining experience and are perpetually in games late they just haven't devleoped that killer instict to put opponents away. Matawan returns to practice in preparation for their first home game at Strathmore when they host Bayshore. In the developmental period Enir Radoncic's perfectly served cross found TJ Boutote who expertly finished for his first marker of the young campaign.

    9/24/13 The Huskies (0-2) played rival Long Branch in a physical and at times chippy battle that was up for grabs until the final whistle. Matawan spotted Long Branch an early 1-0 advantage only to answer half way through the first half when Nico Clark side volleyed and Denir Radoncic cross home to level the score at one apiece. Facing a 3-1 deficit at the half, the Huskies refused to roll over finding a spark and pulling a goal closer immediately into the second half. Nico Clark found the back of the net for a second time when he slotted home an Enir Radoncic through ball, making it a 3-2 scoreline. The Green Wave made it 4-2 on a breakway. Continuing to push the attack the Huskies pulled another goal back when Enir Radoncic received a pass from his brother Denir in space and ripped a twenty yard bomb into the back of the net. Matawan continues to show glimpses of the spectacular but has not been able to put it together for an entire game. The Huskies go back to work today in preparation for their travel to Thompson on Thursday. Matawan dominated in the developmental period getting first goals from Chris Pinto and Anthony Ferrara.

    9/19/13 Matawan (0-1) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Enir Radoncic played Bobby Johns into space and Johns expertly found the back of the net for his first tally of the year. Denir Radoncic made it 2-0 when his 15 yard blast beat the keeper high. The Huskies rapid optimistic start turned sour even more quickly as they conceded three consecutive goals to trail at the half and ultimately fell by the same score of 3-2. The Huskies go back to work looking to improve on some key areas in preparation for their home opener on Tuesday when they welcome Long Branch to town. Newcomers Matt Weisburg and Anthony Ferrara contributed quality minutes and Chris Mallozzi made 6 saves in the loss including a sliding kick save on a break away that kept it a one goal game.
