Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year! My name is Mrs. Colao and I am a reading interventionist and former literacy coach here at MAMS. I have been teaching for over 25 years, and I am excited to share my knowledge and love for reading with your child. It is my goal that I can help encourage them in their reading journey and teach them valuable skills and strategies that they can utilize to help strengthen their reading ability. In my classroom, I encourage active learning as I try to excite and ignite a love of reading for my students. Please look for information coming home throughout the year on ways you and I can work together to promote this love of reading both at school and at home.
At MAMS, we strive to provide the best support for your child. I will be providing reading intervention, 5 days a week for one 34 minute block. We will address vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and reading strategies based on the needs of each student. Groups are focused on comprehension, decoding, and fluency and use special intervention programs such as Visualizing and Verbalizing and Orton Gillingham to best help the student's needs. In addition to my work, your child will receive direct reading instruction and ELA grades from their ELA teacher.
