Mr. Michael C. Wells joins the Matawan Aberdeen Middle School administrative team following his appointment as principal by the Board of Education on May 21, 2018. Mr. Wells began in the district in 2001 where he was a member of the Health and Physical Education Department serving as a teacher and certified athletic trainer at the high school.
Mr. Wells pursued his Masters Degree in Educational Administration during his time at Matawan Regional High School and upon his graduation from St. Peter’s College he served as an interim assistant principal at both the middle and high schools.
In 2007, Mr. Wells was named Assistant Principal of Middletown High School North where he would serve in this position until his return to the district in July 2011. During his time at High School North, Mr. Wells was instrumental in leading the district in the redesign of the Health and Physical Education curriculum as well as the restructuring of The Visions Program, a program designed for students with behavioral and emotional disabilities.
Mr. Wells returned to Matawan Regional High School in July 2011, serving as the Assistant Principal of the freshman and sophomore classes. Mr. Wells led the district in the adoption of the Freshman Academy, a program designed to provide guidance and support for students as they transition into the high school. In addition to the Freshman Academy, Mr. Wells had the opportunity to institute the Civic Leadership program which blossomed into the Leadership Academy at Matawan Regional High School. During his tenure at the high school, Mr. Wells also took on the role of administrator for 21st Century Life Skills, Visual and Performing Arts, Business, Technology, World Language and the Special Education Department.
Mr. Wells is excited to start the next chapter of his educational career as he transitions to the middle school. While he has been spending the summer months getting acclimated to the school and its many curricular and co-curricular offerings, Mr. Wells is looking forward to greeting his new students as they return to school in September.
