I am the Pull-Out Rescource (POR) Social Studies teacher for 6th through 8th grade this year. In place of the typical A-day B-day schedules, we will have Social Studies and Science by semester. However, 8th grade will follow an A-day/B-day schedule. Please check your schedules. Under MP, you will see the numbers 1-4. That tells you which marking periods you have those classes. For Social Studies you will either see 12 or 34. If you see 12, that means you have me 1st and 2nd marking periods. If you see 34, that means you have me 3rd and 4th marking periods.

Mrs. Barbara Gray

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Welcome back to school. I am eager to get the year started and work with your student. I will be their Pull-out Resource room teacher for Social Studies. This is my 23rd year teaching. I have been with the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District for 15 years now. This is my 16th year in the district! I can't believe I'm that old. While I am teaching middle school special education, this is not where my journey began.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from Kean University, in Speech and Hearing Science with a K-12 teaching degree for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I also have my teaching certificates for K-12 special education and K-8 elementary education. I have taught everything from Pre-K Deaf/Hard of Hearing and kindergarten multiple disabilities to high school. I have been an educator for students in 1st-12th grades in resource rooms and in-class resource settings (Math, Pre-Algebra, US History 2, English 9, LAL, Science, Spanish, Chemistry, and Social Studies). I’ve taught middle school students with behavior disabilities in a self-contained classroom for 5 years, and pioneered the Orton Gillingham program, grades 9-12, in Michigan. I have even interpreted sign language for a 4th grade student who had a cochlear implant.

Personally, I am a wife and mother of four. My husband and I recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. My oldest, Collin, is a sophomore at Messiah University and majoring in Christian Ministries and Leadership. I have twin girls (Allison and Madelyn) that are entering seventh grade and our baby, Lauren, is going to fourth grade at Lloyd Rd. We have two dogs and two turtles, not to mention our classroom pets (three fish tanks). Our kids are active in after school activities, so we are very familiar with the challenges of getting everything done. However, as long as we keep education in the forefront, stay involved and encourage them to do their best, they will succeed.

If you have any concerns, do not hesitate to contact me. My email is bgray@marsd.org. Please visit my webpage for resources and further contact information.

Your Partner in Education,

Mrs. Barbara Gray
