Mr. Eyler began his career in 2006 as a Social Studies teacher in Middlesex Borough. He would eventually move on to Piscataway Township Public Schools where he taught 6th grade for one year before moving to Piscataway High School where he taught Honors United States History and Advanced Placement United States History. During his time as a teacher, he also served as the building’s technology coordinator, Director for the Mary Ludwig McCauley Hayes Fellowship Teaching American History Grant, and the district’s Summer Programs Administrator.
In September 2012, Mr. Eyler transitioned to administration when he became an Assistant Principal at Piscataway High School. During his time in this position, he oversaw the day to day operations of 200+ staff and 2,400 students including all aspects of safety and security. Additionally, Mr. Eyler worked closely with the department supervisors of Social Studies, English, Science, Physical Education, and World Language. He served in this role until October 2015 when he became the Principal of Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School (MAMS).
During his first year at MAMS, the New Jersey Department of Education accepted the building as part of its “Connected Action Roadmap” (CAR) pilot program. In each of his three years at MAMS the school was designated a “No Place For Hate School” by the Anti-Defamation League and was a member of the “School Climate Transformation Project” sponsored by Rutgers University and the New Jersey Department of Education.
In July 2018, Mr. Eyler was named the Principal of Matawan Regional High School. During his first two years at MRHS, the school was designated a "No Place for Hate School" by the Anti-Defamation League.
Mr. Eyler has also served as the district’s “School Safety Specialist” and “District Anti-Bullying Coordinator” during various points for the last six years.
In addition to his regular administrative duties, Mr. Eyler formerly served as the President of the Matawan Regional Administrators Association and is currently the co-President of the Monmouth County Principals and Supervisors Association. He is a very active member of the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA) where he sits on the organization's Board of Directors (2020-2023), serves as a Monmouth County State Council Representative, and has been a participant on the Legislative Committee, Special Education Committee and Critical Issues Committee since 2012.
In 2015, he served on Governor Chris Christie’s “State School Security Task Force” and has served on the NJDOE Advisory Council to the Department of Teaching and Learning. He is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Education Law Association.
In July 2020, Mr. Eyler was appointed as the NJPSA Federal Relations Coordinator. In this role, he is responsible for advocating before the United States Congress, conducting outreach to New Jersey Principals on federal issues, and attending the “NASSP Advocacy Conference and Capitol Hill Day” to speak with members of Congress about critical education issues.
Mr. Eyler holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Ramapo College of New Jersey (2005) and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Instruction from Rutgers University- New Brunswick (2009).
Mr. Eyler’s hobbies include fishing, camping, paddleboarding, reading, and baseball (not necessarily in that order!).
He lives in Middletown.
